Our First Farmers Market: More Than a Booth, It Was a Dream Come to Life

There are milestones in every business journey that feel bigger than the event itself. For us at Kosanah, our very first farmers market was one of those moments.

From the outside, it may have looked like a simple market setup—a table, a few pouches of sauce, and some smiling faces. But behind that booth was a journey years in the making. It was built on family recipes, countless hours in the kitchen, late nights refining labels and packaging, and a dream of sharing the flavors we love.

As the date approached, excitement and nervousness seemed to arrive hand in hand.

The days leading up to the market were filled with preparation. We carefully prepare and packaged the sauces at the commercial kitchen of the HOPE  food pantry in Pontiac. The kitchen rental fees help support the pantry's mission of serving families in need throughout our community. This is especially meaningful to us because giving back has always been part of what Kosanah represents. Food has a unique way of nourishing not only our bodies, but also our communities. Knowing that our growth helps support an organization that provides food and assistance to local families makes every kit we produce even more meaningful.

The day of our first market was almost there. We organized displays, checked our inventory. Every detail mattered because this wasn't just about selling Pad Thai kits —it was about introducing Kosanah to our community for the very first time.

Would people be curious enough to stop?

Would they love the recipes that have brought comfort to our family for generations?

Those questions stayed with us as we finally set our stand.

As vendors finished setting up and the first visitors started walking through, we felt a mixture of anticipation and gratitude. We watched people pause at our booth, ask questions, and share stories about their own experiences with Southeast Asian food.

We met adventurous home cooks eager to try new flavors. We met families looking for convenient ways to bring authentic Southeast Asian meals to their dinner tables. Every conversation reminded us why we started Kosanah in the first place.

We were able to meet our customers. We shook hands, exchanged stories, answered questions, and shared a little piece of our heritage face to face.

The market also reminded us of something important: food has an incredible ability to bring people together.

Strangers became customers. Customers became supporters. Conversations turned into connections.

By the end of the day, our feet were tired, our voices were hoarse, and our inventory was noticeably lighter—but our hearts were full.

We left with far more than sales. We left with encouragement, confidence, and a renewed sense of purpose. Every kind word, and every customer who chose to bring Kosanah home with them reminded us that this journey is about more than products. It's about preserving traditions, sharing culture, and creating moments around the table.

To everyone who stopped by our booth, sampled our products, shared a story, or took a bottle home with them: thank you!

You made our first farmers market unforgettable.

And if this experience taught us anything, it's that we're just getting started.

We can't wait to see you at the next market.
